At least three people are in critical condition after a shooting at Evergreen High School, about 30 miles west of Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday, Sept. 10. One of those three individuals was the shooter, according to a spokesperson from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. That spokesperson confirmed there is no longer an active threat.
The sheriff’s office also said they believe the shooter was a student at Evergreen High School.
Three people injured in the shooting are being treated at CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital, a trauma center about 30 minutes from Evergreen, spokesperson Lindsay Radford confirmed to Straight Arrow News. Radford said all three are in critical condition.
County sheriff’s officials confirm the first call came in at 12:24 p.m. mountain time. Officials confirmed there are crime scenes outside of the school on campus property, but could not confirm whether anyone had been shot inside the building.
County officials also confirmed that students at Evergreen High School will be able to reunite with their families at a nearby elementary school.
The FBI’s Denver office also confirmed it is monitoring the shooting in a post on social media.
“We have personnel responding and are standing by to assist,” the statement said.
Colorado lawmakers respond
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a democrat, posted on X shortly after the shooting.
“I am closely monitoring the situation at Evergreen High School, and am getting live updates,” Polis wrote. “State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation. Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community.”
U.S. Rep. Brittany Petterson, D-Colo., confirmed she is in contact with local law officials. Petterson represents the district which includes Evergreen.
Leo Terrell, the U.S. Department of Justice’s senior counsel and Chair of the department’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, also responded to the shooting on social media.
“This senseless violence needs to end now!!! Prayers for the victims and their families!” Terrell wrote.
