President Donald Trump said he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. The president’s announcement comes after a lengthy phone call between the two leaders Thursday morning.
Trump did not say when the meeting would take place, according to The Associated Press. He is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. Zelenskyy has been requesting that the U.S. send long-range missiles to help defend against Russia.
The president has said he may allow Ukraine to buy Tomahawk missiles but has not made a final decision. On Sunday, Trump told reporters that they can be used to pressure Putin to end the war.
“Do they want to have Tomahawks going in that direction? I don’t think so,” Trump said. “I think I might speak to Russia about that.”
This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
