Comedy Central pulls ‘South Park’ rerun parodying Charlie Kirk after his murder

Comedy Central pulled a rerun of a “South Park” episode featuring Charlie Kirk just hours after his assassination, according to several outlets. Instead of the rerun, the network aired the premiere episode of the current season. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the episode is still available on streaming.

The pulled episode, titled “Got a Nut,” centered on Eric Cartman adopting Kirk’s ideologies and mannerisms. The parody episode sparked discussion online Wednesday.

Online reactions to the episode

On social media, some users speculated about the timing of the parody. A few even blamed “South Park” for Kirk’s death, with one X user writing in part, “Let’s blame South Park. Blame the media.”

Despite that criticism, Kirk appeared to embrace the parody when it was released and even engaged with it on his own platforms.

Kirk shared a clip from the episode on his social media accounts. The scene involved a debate about homicide and abortion rights, with Cartman delivering lines that mirrored Kirk’s style of argument.

Rather than distancing himself, Kirk added the caption, “Not bad, Cartman,” with laughing emojis, signaling approval of the satire.

His response on social media

Kirk also addressed the episode on his YouTube show. He told viewers that much of the parody was “hilarious” and that he didn’t find it too offensive.

“Some of it was very funny and I don’t think we should have too thick skin,” he said.

Kirk later discussed the episode on TikTok, calling it a win for getting his message into mainstream media. He went so far as to change his profile picture on the platform to an image of his “South Park” character.
