FBI arrests two after explosion inside Harvard Medical School

The FBI announced it has made two arrests after an explosion at Harvard Medical School. Officials said the FBI’s Boston Field Office made the arrests with the help of law enforcement at the university.

The explosion happened early Saturday morning, rocking the school but injuring no one. First responders said they saw two masked men leaving the area following the explosion.

Who are the suspects?

The FBI identified the two suspects as Logan David Patterson, 18, and Dominick Frank Cardoza, 20, both from Massachusetts. Prosecutors charged the two with conspiracy to damage by means of fire or an explosive.

Authorities arrested both men Thursday morning. The FBI said the two will be arraigned in federal court later in the day.

According to the FBI, the two men were visiting Wentworth College for Halloween. Footage allegedly shows the two men walking toward the school. Investigators said the two chose the building because it appeared abandoned. They also said the two were able to access the building from the roof.

What are the details of the case?

The explosion happened on the fourth floor of the school’s Goldenson Building. The building contains labs and offices involved with the school’s neurobiology program.

School officials said the explosion did not cause structural damage to the building and that all labs and equipment were undamaged.

Investigators quickly deemed the explosion intentional and did not find any other explosive device during their search. They said the men lit a Roman candle outside the building before going inside and placing a cherry bomb inside a locker that exploded.
