Police investigating after suspicious bag found outside Turning Point USA HQ

Police in Phoenix, Arizona, said a “suspicious bag” was found outside the headquarters of Turning Point USA. Tensions around the area are high following the assassination of the non-profit’s CEO and founder, Charlie Kirk.

The Phoenix Police Department said a bomb squad responded to the scene before deeming the bag safe at about 9:30 a.m. Police had blocked the area out of an abundance of caution but lifted restrictions after the bomb squad said the bag was safe. Officials said, “There was not a threat attached to the incident.”

What was in the bag?

Police didn’t say what the bomb squad found in the bag or if they were searching for anyone. The bag was found near a memorial for Kirk, following his assassination.

Authorities said they arrested a man for allegedly vandalizing the memorial outside the headquarters. They did not say whether the bag was left there on purpose or not.

Police have been on edge ever since Kirk was assassinated during an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. Following the attack, several people called in fake bomb threats across the country. However, authorities have not said if these threats were due to Kirk’s death.
